10 seats is good for BJP: Hema
Mathura: With Mathura-Vrindavan being the only turf where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been able to make an impression as the initial counting process shows, Lok Sabha MP Hema Malini, on Monday, attributed her party’s ‘fairly good performance’ to Lord Krishna. The party has won ten seats out of the 38.
Speaking to TOI, Malini said her party was expecting to win at least 15 seats but “even ten is a good number compared to what previous year’s results had been.

The Bahujan Samaj Party which has emerged as a front-runner in most of the other regions has nine seats to its credit. Surprisingly, ruling Samajwadi Party, considered to be a major player backed by resources and official patronage, could manage to grab only three here.
Having a sway over urban areas, BJP’s win in this rural hinterland has pushed the Rashtriya Lok Dal, with eight seats, to the third place. Malini said, “We have been rewarded for our work in the rural areas. People have showered their affection and kept their faith on us. I believe in straight politics and my focus is on the development and welfare of people in this land of Sri Krishna-Radha. I wish to be remembered for my work.”
Meanwhile, Janardan Sharma, her representative in the constituency, believes, “If she had spent more time here, the results would have been even better. But we should also remember that the Bihar state assembly elections took a lot of her time.”
The region also saw women candidates at the helm with 17 seats won so far. “This could have a salutary effect in the long run, on politics at the grassroots,” said Braj Bachao Samiti member Rhais Qureshi.
